Sail From Mallorca : Spain’s magical island

Mallorca, the centrepiece of the Balearic Islands served by the Mediterranean Sea is the ideal destination for boaters. From its stunning beaches, rich cultural heritage, and beautiful natural landscapes, Mallorca is a must-do for your Mediterranean sailing holiday.

We recommend setting sail from Palma, Mallorca where there is lots to do even before your yacht charter begins. Places like the trendy Santa Catalina where there is a selection of tasty restaurants and a bustling nightlife.

⛵ When to Sail

We recommend sailing Mallorca from April to September as the island experiences a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm waters. Also, Mallorca is surrounded by crystal clear waters and optimal wind conditions to make your sailing experience, a comfortable one. Mallorca is an easier destination to navigate in comparison to other Mediterranean destinations.

If you want to beat the crowds and have a more quiet experience consider sailing in April and May, however by sailing in the high season you can experience events like the Deia International Music Festival or the Illes Balears Classics Sailing Regatta. Also if you wish for the nightlife that is associated with the islands of Spain we suggest traveling in the high season (June – August) as everything will be open.

If you wish to set sail in maximum comfort you can book a Balearic cabin charter, relax, and unwind on the beautiful beaches of these Mediterranean islands.

🗺️How to get there

Mallorca is an extremely accessible location with amazing flight links from all corners of Europe as well as a great public transport system on the island. The island’s only international airport is the Airport of Palma de Mallorca which is the third biggest airport in Spain based on passenger numbers.

You can reach the biggest GlobeSailor base on the island which is Palma by taking a twenty-minute bus from the airport. You can also inform your GlobeSailor advisor if you would like to organize a transfer from the airport.

🍴What to eat

Spanish cuisine is renowned for being some of the most healthy and tasty cuisines across Europe. Mallorca has a collection of beautiful dishes for you to dig into on your yacht rental holiday.

Sobrassada

Sobrassada is a type of cured sausage, it is made out of pork, paprika, salt, and other spices. Mallorca mostly had a Mediterranean diet until the late 1950s which didn’t contain much meat except for Sobrassada and sausages. This dish has spread from the Balearics to places such as Barcelona as well as Southern France.

Paella

Paella is perhaps one of the most famous Spanish dishes and is enjoyed across the world. On your sailing holiday from Mallorca, you will get a great opportunity to try fresh and delicious Paella. The dish comprises bomba rice, tomatoes, green beans, lima beans, rabbit, chicken, olive oil, and saffron. Paella is a dish of Valencian peasants that was eaten during celebrations.

⛵ Where to sail

Port d’Andratx

After settling into your new home on the water for the week, sail to Port d’Andratx on the island’s South coast. Which is a picturesque port town known for its astounding natural beauty. Once you arrive in Port d’Andratx take a stroll along the waterfront promenade and view the vibrant range of colours of the Mediterranean traditional buildings that line the street.

While you’re in the area, take a trip to  Sa Taronja Cultural Center, a restored 19th-century mansion now a multi-cultural center with two galleries, a theatre, a dance hall, and twelve artists’ studios. This area is also perfect for sitting down on a beach with a beautiful view and a bottle of local wine to help you unwind.

Your next stop on your exploration of the magnificent Balearic Islands is Port des Canonge an alluring small village hidden by the rough landscape of Mallorca. Begin the day by taking a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters of the pebble beach Port des Canonge. Your next activity is to venture on a scenic coastal walk along the Cami des Correu. This charming trail winds its way along the cliffs hugging the Mediterranean Sea. Enjoy the dramatic views of rocky coves, pine forests, and the crystalline waters that define Port des Canonge.
