Sailing Destination Trends 2025: Our experts share their opinions

As we bid farewell to another wonderful year here at GlobeSailor, it’s time to start exploring the top cruise destinations for 2025! From the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean to the sapphire seas of the Mediterranean, there truly is a yacht charter for everyone. As the new year begins, we are diving into predictions for the leading sailing trends in 2025!

Charter Types

In 2024, cabin charter gained traction, with 3% more holiday makers choosing them for their sailing holidays, indicating a shift towards a more affordable, accessible, and social sailing experience, particularly amongst younger or more novice charterers in 2025. Bareboat charters were the most popular in the past year, appealing to the more advanced sailors. Despite their marginal decline compared to 2023, bareboat charters are expected to continue as the leading charter type in 2025. Crewed charters experienced a slight drop in bookings in the past year yet still make up a mighty 28.5% of the sector. These exclusive crewed charters will continue to be favored by those looking for a fully catered luxury experience.

As for vessels, catamarans are expected to be very popular in 2025. Dominating with 60% of chartered vessels in the past year, catamarans are spacious and sturdy, perfect for families and friends alike. Sailboats follow with a sizable 34% of sailors opting for a more ‘traditional’ sailing experience. These vessels are ideal for those seeking a calming yet adventurous experience, connecting with nature and experiencing the beauty of the open sea. Motor yachts made up 3% of overall bookings in 2024, it is likely this figure will remain consistent in the next year. These large vessels will continue to satisfy holidaymakers seeking specialized luxury experiences.

So now we know which vessels are our favourite, where will we be going?

Destinations

Greece

Sailing holidays in Greece are becoming one of our most popular holiday choices and Greece has emerged as a top contender for the adventurous traveler in 2025. From cruising the charming Cyclades to the stunning seascapes of the Saronic Gulf, Greece continues to reign as one of the most sought-after choices for both novice and experienced sailors.

Many sightseers will set sail from the luscious island of Lefkada in search of vibrant culture and ancient history. Why not dock at Agia Efimia and explore the picturesque, tiny village of Dendrinata and see the ancient, historical monastery of Panagia Adeliko?

The trend forecast for 2025 also predicts that sailing holidays in the Cyclades will remain a popular destination for seafarers. We can expect an influx of Catamarans heading south from Mykonos to the ethereal Paros, where sailors can discover delicious Parian wine from local vineyards or pay a visit to the quaint Byzantine Museum in the heart of Parikia.

Caribbean

It is no secret that the a Caribbean sailing holiday is the dream for many. With over 5000 idyllic islands including the beautiful Bahamas, the invigorating Virgin Islands and superb Saint Lucia. The Caribbean boasts a wide range of options for everybody, giving your charter the picture-perfect backdrop to make the memories of a lifetime.

There has been a rise in bookings for sailors wishing to set sail from more ‘exotic’ destinations such as the spectacular Martinique. A trend we can expect to continue in the new year thanks to the Caribbean warm bays and rich history. As one of the most beautiful Caribbean islands, Martinique is renowned as a true tropical paradise, with pristine bays filled with arrays of colorful fish, ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts!

Sailing holidays in Saint Martin are also popular, if you are looking for silky sandy beaches and a rich blend of cultures. With the French state in the north and the Dutch in the south, this international island has managed to hold onto its Creole charm! Known as the ‘culinary capital’ of the Caribbean, you will be spoilt for choice with an array of great restaurants!

Italy

With it’s enchanting Amalfi Coast and tasteful Tuscan Archipelago, it comes as no surprise that yacht charters in Italy were one of the top sailing trends in 2024, with almost 10% more holidaymakers choosing Italy for their ultimate getaway destination than in 2023.

Anchoring on divine coastlines and immersing yourself in Italy’s rich, fruitful culture provides an unforgettable yacht chartering experience that we are sure you will cherish for years to come. Some of the most popular sailing destinations in Italy include the picturesque and beautiful city of Naples. Drop your anchor and enjoy some onshore excursions. Take a day trip to see the ancient city of Pompeii, a UNESCO world heritage site.

While sailing holidays in Croatia are exceedingly popular, they experienced a slight decline in popularity for yacht charters in 2024. Rising costs on account of a rapid increase in popularity over the years may be to blame. However, with its breathtaking scenery, vibrant marine wildlife and exceptional infrastructure in the marinas it is no doubt that holiday makers will continue to choose Croatia for their sailing holidays.

We are optimistic that in 2025, the trend of increased bookings during off peak seasons will continue to grow! Booking yacht charters off season can allow for more budget friendly options, more favorable weather and fewer crowds in tourist locations to allow for more in depth explorations and more immersive, unique experiences.

This year, we are setting sail and chartering a yacht, we hope to ‘sea’ you out there!

Where will you sail in 2025?
